Chinese Hackers Spy Through WhatsApp, Indian Army Warns
New Delhi: The Indian Army has released a video promoting a usage of safe social media usage, warning against “Chinese” hacking in WhatsApp groups. A video, tweeted by Indian Army’s official Twitter account- handled by the Army additional Directorate General Public Interface (ADGPI) department, shows how the Chinese use “all kinds of platforms” including mobile platforms such as WhatsApp to penetrate “your digital world”. According to the video, WhatsApp groups are a new way of hacking into systems and if any of your WhatsApp groups has a number starting with +86, then it is likely that your group and data may be leaked to Chinese hackers.
“The Chinese use all kinds of platforms to penetrate your digital world. Whatsapp groups are a new way of hacking into your system. Chinese numbers starting with +86 barge into your groups and start extracting all the data,” the 1.10-minute video warns. Advising to be “vigilant, careful” and urging to stay “safe”, the video advises Whatsapp users to “start checking your groups, and do regular audits”.
“All contacts in the groups should be saved by names. Scrutinize unknown numbers constantly. If you change the mobile number, inform the group admin. Destroy the SIM card if you change the number and delete the Whatsapp on that number.
