Chrome users, here’s an important update for you
NEW DELHI: Chrome browser users Google has a warning for you. The tech giant is asking Google Chrome users to update their browsers to the latest version immediately. The company is asking the users to do so in order to protect themselves from three different zero-day vulnerabilities.
The company has said that they are aware of the vulnerabilities and have also issued a fix for the same in the latest update 80.0.3987.122. In an official blog post, the company has confirmed the high level of vulnerabilities in Chrome 80. The vulnerabilities enabled potential hackers to trick people to visit fake websites which could affect the complete computer system.
As reported by Forbes, “ a zero-day vulnerability is “a security vulnerability that is not known to the product vendor or security researchers but, crucially, is known to threat actors who can then exploit it.”
These latest vulnerabilities were found by Google’s security team along with André Bargull, who received a $5,000 reward for reporting them.
How to update Google Chrome
Although the Chrome web browser automatically notifies users about the latest available version, users are recommended to manually trigger the update process by following the below steps.
1. Open Google Chrome on your Windows or Mac computer.
2. In the extreme upper right corner, click on the “three dots” icon.
3. In the resulting drop-down menu, select the Help > About Google Chrome menu options. Simply open this page will initiate the update process.
4. Once the browser updates, you might need to click on the RELAUNCH button to reopen Chrome.
