Get ready to see a lot of ads in your Instagram feed
So far – unlike Facebook – there weren’t too many ads that showed up on Instagram. However, it looks like those days are soon going to be a thing of the past as the Facebook-owned photo sharing platform today made a big announcement. In an official blog post, Instagram revealed that ads are coming to the Explore tab on its app.
“Brands are an important part of the Instagram experience for people. Whether it’s shopping, catching up on stories or discovering the latest trends, we see people actively looking to connect with brands they like. That’s why, over the next few months, we’ll be introducing ads in Explore feed,” the blog post reveals.
Instagram also said that it plans to introduce ads “thoughtfully” and that users will have control over what they want to see. “We’re introducing ads in Explore slowly and thoughtfully in the coming months. After tapping on a photo or video in Explore, people may begin to see ads as part of their browsing experience just like in the main feed. As always, people have control over the ads they see,” it further said.
As per the company, for advertisers, “this is an opportunity to be part of what’s culturally relevant and trending while reaching new audiences who are looking to discover something new. Advertisers can easily extend their campaigns using automatic placements with a simple opt-in to reach audiences in Explore.”
The ads in Explore tab will officially start rolling out today but not all users will see them as it’s a gradual roll out. This was revealed by a senior Instagram executive in an interview with The Verge.
It’s not as if one didn’t see ads on Instagram but today’s announcement does indicate that now there will be a lot ads that one will see in their feed.
