How to confirm whether your Aadhaar is linked with PAN; check step-wise process
New Delhi: Linking Aadhaar with various services such as bank account, mobile number is not mandatory after the Supreme Court upheld the government decision that Aadhaar should be linked with all such services. According to Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, the PAN should be mandatorily linked with Aadhaar, otherwise, it would be considered as invalid.
According to an ET report, individuals who have filed the income tax return (ITR) for the FY 2016-2017 and have not linked PAN with Aadhaar are required to link these by March 31, 2019.
“Constitutional validity of Aadhaar has been upheld by the Supreme Court of India in September, 2018. Consequently, in terms of Section 139AA of Income Tax Act, 1961 and order dated June 30, 2018 of the Central Board of Direct Taxes, Aadhaar-PAN linking is mandatory now which has to be completed till March 31, 2019 by PAN holders requiring filing of ITR,” PTI reported citing CBDT advisory.
