IRCTC eWallet 2019: Registration, e-ticket booking, benefits
New Delhi: Train ticket booking process was used to be a tedious and time-taking task before the incorporation of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). Earlier, passengers were required to mandatorily visit the Indian Railway booking counters and Railway reservation offices to book train tickets. With the institution of the IRCTC, the ticket booking process, modification of booking, cancellation and reservation of seats on the Railway-organised tours have been made so easy.

A customer, willing to use IRCTC eWallet, is required to register for the eWallet and top it up before proceeding for the train ticket booking process. IRCTC eWallet can be created by paying a non-refundable fee of Rs 50 (excluding service tax) and a transaction charge of Rs 10 (excluding service tax). According to IRCTC, the facility of IRCTC eWallet is only available for resident Indians with an operational domestic mobile number.
How to make payments via IRCTC eWallet?
The ticket booking amount can be paid directly via the IRCTC ewallet which will be displayed as a payment option along with other payment channels upon the successful registration. According to IRCTC, the ticketing partner has the right to change the membership fee and redemption of the IRCTC eWallet account. Users can top-up the IRCTC eWallet account accordingly to the required ticket booking amount.
How to register for IRCTC eWallet?
A user is required to login to the IRCTC account with IRCTC user ID & password. You can click on ‘IRCTC eWallet Register Now/Reactivate’ from the drop-down menu under ‘IRCTC eWallet’ tab on the IRCTC homepage. You can either register for IRCTC eWallet by PAN card number or by Aadhaar number. The user will be prompted to enter a transaction password and has to confirm the transaction password.
After entering the password, you can pay a non-refundable fee of Rs 50 (IRCTC eWallet registration fee) via the available payment options. Following the successful registration of IRCTC eWallet account, a user can add a minimum deposit of Rs 100 up to a higher limit of Rs 10,000.

With IRCTC eWallet, a customer can save money on payment gateway charges per ticket and can save time by eliminating the payment approval cycle. With the help of IRCTC account, a user is eligible to modify the IRCTC eWallet account. Primarily, IRCTC eWallet eliminates the dependency on other payment channels including net banking, mobile-eWallet at the time of paying the booking amount.
With the incorporation of IRCTC eWallet account, IRCTC offers secure ticket booking by providing transaction password/PIN which will be required to be entered for every train ticket booking done via IRCTC eWallet. Interestingly, the refund amount will be credited back to the user’s IRCTC eWallet account on the next day in case of ticket cancellation.
