State Bank of India customer and taken LPG connection? You can’t get subsidy on LPG cylinders
Are you a State Bank India customer and taken LPG connection in your name? You can’t get the direct subsidy on LPG cylinders given by the government if you have not linked Aadhaar number with your bank account. On its official website, the public lender has been requesting customers to link their accounts with Aadhaar.
“Dear Customers, Please contact your branch with Aadhaar letter for linking it with Bank account to facilitate transfer of DBT benefits and LPG subsidy. Kindly ignore if already done,” SBI says in its website.
Recently, the Supreme Court had ruled that Aadhaar linking is not mandatory for banking services. However, it must be done for availing the subsidy amount in the bank account.
You also need to complete the KYC (Know Your Customer) process with your gas agency, if you haven’t done this already. The government has asked gas agencies to complete the KYC of all customers before 30 November. The customers who will fail to get their KYC done will not get LPG connection from December 1. Even those customers, who have given up the LPG subsidy need to get their KYC done before the deadline.
Those SBI, or other banks’ customers, whose annual income is above Rs 10 lakh, are not eligible for getting gas subsidy. A report by Hindi daily Hindustan said recently that as many as 1 crore LPG consumers have not completed the KYC process.
To complete the KYC process, you need to submit a form with proof of identity and address.
Documents valid for proof of address include: Aadhaar (UID), Lease agreement, Voter ID , Telephone/Electricity /Water bill, Passport, Self-declaration attested by a Gazetted officer, Ration Card, Flat allotment/possession letter, House registration document, LIC Policy, Bank/Credit Card Statement.
Documents valid for proof of identity include, Aadhaar Number (UID/EID), Passport Number, PAN Card Number, Voter ID Card, ID card Issued By Central/State, Driving License.
